Naivasha - Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagna has asked Kenya's Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kaharih, to avoid participating in politics and concentrate on his duties within the military.

At Reverend Harrison Kinyua's consecration in Naivasha, Gachagna urged Kahariri to return "to the barracks" and uphold the military's professional standards.
"Kenyan citizens have lost faith in President William Ruto, and nothing can change this sentiment. We urge General Gachunga to ensure the military remains a professional entity since it stands as one of the few institutions that Kenya still holds in high regard. Kindly revert to your duties within the barracks, safeguard our nation, and avoid engaging with political matters—as they could tarnish your reputation," he said.
Following General Kahariri’s comments about the widespread "Ruto Must Go" slogans—prompted by the youth-led protests in June 2024—he made these observations.
"Gachagna urged keeping the military away from politics. Its role should be defending Kenya against outside dangers, rather than getting involved in Ruto’s political issues. Considering the nation’s present condition, even you cannot rescue him," he stated.

On Thursday, March 27, Kahariri cautioned that although individuals possess the freedom to voice their opinions, these demonstrations should occur within legal boundaries.
However, Gachauga rebutted Kahariri’s claim, asserting that these slogans signify the rising public opinion leading up to the 2027 General Election.
This serves as an announcement ahead of 2027. Ruto will be ousted via a democratic election. Do not claim it’s against the constitution—as he will be voted out,” insisted Gachagna.
During a public lecture at the National Intelligence and Research University in Nairobi, the CDF shared his thoughts alongside National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.
Both officials stressed that any handover of authority should adhere to constitutional procedures to ensure the nation's stability.
