Politicians Steer Clear: Irungu Nyakera Urges Mt. Kenya Residents to Focus on Ruto's Tour
The chairperson of the Kenya International Convention Center (KICC), Irungu Nyakera, has appealed to the people living around the Mount Kenya area to focus on progress rather than politics during President William Ruto’s forthcoming visit to their region.
He stressed that the purpose of the visit is to talk about advancements and tackle the fundamental challenges confronting the Mt Kenya area instead of getting involved in political discussions.
The Chairperson additionally warned the region about putting politics above development, as this could hinder their advancement. They provided examples from history showing how political diversions have impeded crucial initiatives.
"History has imparted stern lessons upon us. During President Jomo Kenyatta’s visit to Kisumu alongside Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, they were met with hostility; as a result, progress in that area stagnated for several decades," recalled Irungu.
Likewise, during President Uhuru's last term, Mt Kenya was adversely affected as we permitted politics to take precedence over collaboration, resulting in progress passing us by.
He urged the folks from the mountainside to stay concentrated on the development plan since it was their chosen path, emphasizing that these developmental efforts stem directly from the President’s office.
"In the previous election, Mt Kenya supported the agenda of progress, which, as everyone knows, is driven by the powers vested in the Office of the President. During his visit next week, let us concentrate on that advancement rather than getting entangled in political discourse," he emphasized.
The Chairperson conveyed his disappointment about being unable to join the tour, mentioning that he was still pursuing studies at Oxford University in the UK.
Nevertheless, he reiterated his backing for Ruto’s visit and urged the community members to concentrate on talks centered around progress and development.
Politicians aligned with President William Ruto, such as Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa, have initiated extensive surveys in the Mount Kenya region to ready the area before his upcoming visit next week.
President Ruto plans to revisit the Central Kenya counties for the first time since his previous trip in August 2024. He will embark on a five-day work tour from April 1st through April 5th, 2025.
Several initiatives have been finished, numerous ones are at different points of progress, and some are ready to be initiated as part of the continuous execution of the revolutionary Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which serves as the government’s plan.
Therefore, he will oversee finished projects, monitor those currently underway, and initiate new ones across nine counties: Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang'a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Kiambu.
