Ghana's Dr. Jasaw Joins Global Leaders at CGIAR Science Week in Nairobi

On April 8, Accra — Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, an NDC legislator from the Wa East constituency and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, is attending the CGIAR Science Week in Nairobi, Kenya, as part of Ghana’s delegation.
The upcoming event, running from Monday, April 7 through Saturday, April 12, 2025, commences on day one and gathers international experts in research, policy-making, and development. The gathering aims to explore groundbreaking strategies for transforming food, land, and water systems.
During an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra before the conference, Dr. Jasaw stated that this event presented a chance to fortify the connections between research and policy.
As a prominent leader in Ghana's agriculture industry, I aim to provide perspectives on CGIAR's recently launched Policy Champions Network.
"This effort seeks to close the divide between agricultural research and policy, advocating for decisions based on verified data," he explained to the GNA.
During the Science Week, the Member of Parliament will interact with policy experts from more than 26 nations to pinpoint critical areas for national policy research and strengthen cooperation between scientific and political spheres.
Dr. Jasaw’s expertise in sustainable food systems will be invaluable in shaping and driving the Policy Champions Network.
The Chairman of the Agric and Cocoa Affairs Commitee’s participation will help foster partnerships and inspire change for resilient food, water, and land systems.
The event’s plenary program features global and regional leaders discussing ways to harness and scale science and innovation.
Several important subjects slated for discussion at the CGIAR Science Week encompass Climate Action; exploring methods to reduce the effects of climate change on farming practices; Sustainable Farming; unveiling the new Sustainable Farming Science Program; Capacity Building; strengthening efforts towards developing capabilities in agricultural research and innovation, as well as the Genebanks Acceleration Strategy; speeding up the creation and distribution of enhanced plant breeds.
Dr. Jasaw’s participation in the CGIAR Science Week underscores Ghana’s commitment to strengthening research-policy linkages in agriculture and food systems.
The MP’s contributions will help shape the future of agricultural research and policy in Ghana and beyond.
