Trump Authorizes 90-Day Tariff Pause for Most Countries—Excluding China

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he has approved a 90-day suspension of trade tariffs for most nations, though China was not included in this new agreement.

On a posting to Truth Social, Trump announced that he would be implementing new tariffs at a rate of 125% on goods coming from China, effective right away, due to what he perceives as China’s disrespect towards global markets.

In his social media posting, Trump first indicated that the 90-day pause would affect over 75 nations that had expressed interest in negotiating fresh trade agreements with Washington following the 'Independence Day' tariff plan announcement.

However, the White House subsequently clarified that the 90-day delay would affect most, if not all nations, and that during the negotiation process, a “uniform 10 percent tariff” would be imposed temporarily.

The global markets experienced significant growth after the announcement. as the Dow Jones index surged by 2,000 points shortly after the announcement.

Trump's latest raft of tariffs kicked in shortly after midnight and included 104% on products from China, 20% on the European Union, 24% on Japan and 25% on South Korea.

U.S. government representatives attempted to calm voters, GOP legislators, and corporate leaders by stating that the rates are open for negotiation. However, they also indicated that this process might extend over several months.
