Liverpool Set to Break Club Record with Mega Bid for Argentine Striker

Liverpool are readying a club-record bid to sign Julian Alvarez and one Reds star has already put in work to convince the Argentine to move, while Liverpool’s back-up plan involving a cash-plus-player swap proposal has also been revealed.

Liverpool They might clinch the Premier League title this season, although Arne Slot’s dominant team may appear drastically different next year. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are set to be available as free agents come summer. Additionally, Liverpool plans to bring in a new left-back to replace the aging Andy Robertson, along with signing a central midfielder and a striker.

The latest update focuses on the striker role, where both Liverpool and Arsenal are seriously considering Alexander Isak among their options.

However, since Newcastle is firmly opposed to letting him go and has put an astronomical £150 million price tag on the Swedish player, all potential buyers – not just Liverpool – might have to consider alternative options.

And different from past times when Liverpool set their sights solely on being No. 1, a new development has emerged. AnfieldWatch suggests there's a perfectly capable substitute ready and waiting.

Julian Alvarez – currently of Atletico Madrid Following his £81.8m (including add-ons) transfer from Manchester City last summer for an equivalent of €95m, he has become a sought-after player in Merseyside.

The report stated that Liverpool had expressed interest in signing Alvarez during the previous summer and had preliminary discussions with Man City. They also considered involving Luis Diaz as part of the deal but differed from Man City regarding his valuation.

Liverpool valued Diaz at £60 million, whereas City thought £45 million was a fairer price. However, this difference became irrelevant when Atletico Madrid made a cash-only bid that secured the player’s transfer.

Since joining Spain, Alvarez has lived up to expectations, accumulating 22 goals and five assists in this campaign. However, according to AnfieldWatch , he might achieve a swift comeback to the Premier League after being absent for only one year.

Mac Allister’s part / Liverpool’s alternative strategy with Nunez

It's said that Liverpool's interest in Alvarez hasn't diminished, and according to the report's title, 'Liverpool Sets Club Record Bid for Julian Alvarez.'

Liverpool’s current record buy is Virgil van Dijk at £75m. Darwin Nunez’s arrival from Benfica totalled £85m, though the up-front fee was £64m with the remainder made up through future add-ons.

A bid over £100 million would likely clinch the transfer for Alvarez at Atlético Madrid; however, this figure may not deter Liverpool from pursuing him. According to the report, they see him as 'the ideal match' for manager Arne Slot.

Explaining why, AnfieldWatch Added: 'He acts as both a facilitator and a scorer of goals. His work ethic is top-notch. He puts in the effort and can adapt to various positions up front.' It's been demonstrated this season that Alvarez also delivers tangible results.

Liverpool’s attempts to lure Alvarez to Anfield last summer even included Argentina teammate, Alexis Mac Allister, playing his part.

It is believed that the midfielder has initiated a 'charm campaign' and might be involved in Liverpool's fresh attempts to reach an agreement.

If Liverpool hesitate about Atlético Madrid’s £100 million plus asking price, they also have an alternative strategy prepared.

The report indicated that Liverpool might consider incorporating Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota into the agreement to help reduce the overall cost of the transaction.

It is thought that Atletico Madrid chief Diego Simeone is a 'big admirer' of Nunez, with his intense and dynamic playstyle appearing perfectly suited for the Argentine coach.

Nevertheless, Liverpool would consent to including Nunez in an agreement solely if Atletico Madrid values him accordingly. The club executives at Liverpool feel confident that they could fetch nearly £80 million should they sell Nunez to teams in Saudi Arabia, where interest continues to be strong after narrow escape against Al-Nassr in January .
