Mumbai (Maharashtra), India, March 29: The runway at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI became a canvas for new creative expressions as three talented emerging designers took center stage during their highly anticipated appearances at the GenNext Show. True to form, this platform dedicated to highlighting upcoming leaders in Indian fashion presented another impressive array of groundbreaking designs and artistic flair.

Over more than twenty years, the GenNext Show has emerged as a hallmark of up-and-coming creativity within Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI, providing a distinguished arena where new talents can showcase their distinctive visions on an international level. This event has played a crucial role in nurturing many of India’s leading contemporary fashion designers through guidance, visibility, and a chance to explore innovative frontiers.

Shaunik Khosla from NIF Global expressed his views during this significant event: "At NIF Global, fostering emerging talents has always been a priority for us. Our partnership with Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI via the GenNext initiative enables us to achieve exactly that. Each season brings new opportunities where we can proudly offer budding designers a chance to display their innovative designs on this esteemed platform, helping them establish themselves within the fashion world."

NIF GLOBAL, part of the New York Institute of Fashion Incorporated (a U.S.-based entity), has become a driving force behind fostering new talent in the world of fashion. The 2025 edition of their GenNext showcase underscored this mission by highlighting designers who transformed traditions, feelings, and cultural legacies into modern stories.

This year’s selections were overseen by an esteemed jury comprising leading figures from the industry, each offering unique viewpoints. Members of the committee consisted of Sunanda Khaitan, Vice President of Lakmé; Sabina Chopra, mentor for emerging talents; Rochelle Pinto, Head of Editorial Content at Vogue India; Tina Tahiliani Parikh, Executive Director of Ensemble; Kunal Rawal, a celebrated Indian fashion designer; and Jaspreet Chandok, Group Vice President at Reliance Brands Ltd. Their combined knowledge and keen judgment significantly contributed to identifying talented designers whose work amazed viewers.

Designer Abhishek Shinde, known under the label 'Abhichiq', showcases his latest collection titled "Ciao -- SS 2025." Through this lineup, Abhishek Shinde took viewers on an immersive journey to sunny Sicily via "Ciao," which exudes the allure of the Mediterranean region. Drawing inspiration from the lively culture, rugged terrains, and skilled craftsmanship native to the island, the collection honors dressing up through the use of woven fabrics, manual print techniques, and detailed needlework. Vibrant festival stripes combined with vintage-inspired cuts bring a spirit of exploration into the series, transforming traditional men’s wear into a playful yet enduring fashion statement.

Designer Somya Lochan, under her label 'Quarter', presents "The Dichotomy of Loss," a collection inspired by an intense examination of sorrow. This project involved five people who candidly shared their individual stories of loss; during this process, they were allowed to disassemble garments as part of their emotional journey. These creations embody the unfiltered intricacies of mourning via hand-woven Benares silk brocade, the restoration of a three-decades-old loom, Himroo brocade sourced from Aurangabad, intricate hand embroidery, and Dhokra buttons made with a 4000-year-old lost-wax casting technique originating from West Bengal.

"The Modern Heirlooms" line, crafted by designer Yash Patil under his label "The Antique Piece," was inspired by the lavish wardrobes of Nepal’s historic Rana queens. This range took traditional grandeur and adapted it for today’s fashion landscape. Blending rich storytelling with meticulous artistry, these garments featured intricate braiding techniques, precious stones, and sumptuous fabrics woven into current designs. Every item served as an embodiment of both the enduring legacy and classic sophistication associated with Himalayan nobility.

As an enthusiastic supporter in fostering these remarkable individuals, NIF Global remains dedicated to empowering the upcoming cohort of designers, offering them a stage where their ideas and perspectives can shine and gain recognition. The GenNext Show has once again solidified its position as a guiding light for emerging creativity, challenging limits and molding the direction of fashion’s future.
