Iconic 40-Year-Old Las Vegas Landmark Set to Be Demolished

A well-known icon on Las Vegas' renowned Strip is scheduled for demolition this year.
The round atrium at Caesars Palace – constructed in 1986 featuring a moving walkway designed to transport people from the Strip directly into the casino – has remained unused over the last ten years.
The structure inspired by Rome now serves as the background for numerous tourist photographs, situated adjacent to a drive leading up to the extensive hotel-casino complex.
Records show that the Clark County Building Department initially granted a demolition permit worth $157,500 in March 2023.
Now its time has ultimately come to an end.
"It should resolve itself likely at some point this year," said Sean McBurney, the Regional President of Caesars Entertainment. mentioned to the Las Vegas Review Journal .
Heidi Sarno Straus, whose father developed Caesar's Palace, mentioned to the Journal that the rotunda holds little significance and was not part of the initial design.
'The space may have served as a storage area. However, it seems to be more about appearance than functionality. Losing it isn’t much of an issue,' she mentioned additionally.
McBurney acknowledges that he hasn't entered the rotunda in many years.
"As I remember, once you step inside, it feels as though you've entered a small Roman city," he recollected.
'This is intriguing. However, it doesn’t serve any purpose right now.'
In 2023, Caesar's Palace originally intended to remove the rotunda before the Grand Prix event scheduled for November that same year.
Its scheduled destruction is among other setbacks for Sin City, including the shutting down of the famous hotel Mirage , featuring guests like Michael Jackson.
The 3,044-room resort is scheduled to reopen as Hard Rock Las Vegas in 2027.
The tropical theme and volcano will be removed, and in their place, a 700-foot-tall guitar-shaped tower will be erected, much like the one seen elsewhere. Florida hotel - will appear.
