According to Arise Television, Datti made this statement in an open letter directed at the pair in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

As the upcoming general election draws near, you find yourself in familiar territory once more. This time, however, since you believe your party, the PDP, might not grant you the presidential nomination, you're contemplating aligning with several discontented politicians to create an alliance aimed at contesting against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
For you, Alhaji Atiku, our previous Deputy President, I offer this sincere counsel: in both your own best interests and those of Nigerians, it would be wiser not to pursue the presidency in 2027, as by then you will have reached the age of 80.

Datti also advised Atiku to avoid heeding Nasir El-Rufai and certain other politicians who might be advocating for a coalition before 2027.

He remembered that El-Rufai, during a media interaction in 2022, stated, "If I depart from the APC, then my political career will be over. Given these circumstances, consider reconciling with the APC or stepping down from politics entirely."
