"Division Politics Will Harm Nation," Warns RS Member Kapil Sibal on Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 Passage

New Delhi [India], April 4 (ANI): Following the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 through Parliament, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal On Friday, they stated that divisive politics would be detrimental to the country.
"125 votes to 92 in favor of the amendment and 128 votes to 95 for the passage of the bill. Both chambers show these majorities. A significant number of members have opposed the legislation. These outcomes could carry political consequences, particularly for parties aligned with the BJP as elections in Bihar are approaching soon... Such divisive tactics can be detrimental to our country," Sibal stated.
The Parliament approved the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 during the wee hours of Friday following an extended and intense debate.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar Ayes have it with 128 votes, and Nays stand at 95; absentees count as zero. The bill has been approved.
The 'Mussalman Wakf (Abolition) Bill, 2024' was also approved by the Parliament. Lawmakers continued their session past midnight to ensure the bill’s passage.
The Union Minorities Affairs Minister, Kiren Rijiju, charged the opposing political groups with attempting to deceive the public regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill, asserting instead that it would advantage millions within the Muslim community.
Responding to the more than 12 hours of discussion on the legislation Rajya Sabha Rijiju mentioned that many of the proposals put forward by the Joint Parliamentary Committee have been included in the amended legislation.
Rijiju said that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill , 2025, will be referred to as the UMEED (Waqf Administration Empowerment Enhancement and Growth) Act.
The Lok Sabha, which commenced discussions on the topic, Waqf (Amendment) Bill On Wednesday, it surpassed midnight following an extensive debate.
Following the incorporation of suggestions from the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the legislation tabled last August, the government presented an updated version of the bill. This new draft aims to modify the 1995 Act with the objective of enhancing the governance and oversight of waqf properties within India.
This legislation seeks to address the deficiencies of the prior act and boost the effectiveness of Waqf boards, streamlining the registration procedures and amplifying the use of technology for handling waqf documentation. (ANI)
