Oldies Music Fest Makes a Comeback in Kigali Universe
Enthusiasts of classic music are set to enjoy a trip down memory lane as the fifth installment of the Oldies Music Festival prepares to happen on July 26.
This time, the festival will move to the Kigali Universe Complex from Canal Olympia in Rebero, aiming to be nearer to the music community.
A highlight of Rwanda’s entertainment schedule, the forthcoming event, as stated by the organizers, aims to deliver an extraordinary experience that merges timeless classics with engaging new fan-focused activities.
Famed for its tribute to classic tunes, the festival will once more showcase leading Rwandan DJs who will play cherished tracks from Rwanda, East Africa, the United States, and farther afield.
Nevertheless, the organizers are stepping things up with multiple new features aimed at making the event more engaging and interactive.

"One of our goals for this year’s festival is to increase interactivity," said Basile Uwimana, an organizer at the event. The New Times. We aim for fans not only to hear the music but to experience it all over again.
One of the new features includes a memory wall where guests can jot down their cherished classic tunes or iconic musicians. Additionally, there’s a special photo booth zone equipped with vintage musical gear and mementos from past eras, offering an authentic blast-from-the-past ambiance.
"Additionally, we host the Best Dressed Awards, an intricate contest where attendees showcase their vintage style. There'll also be an open microphone segment allowing participants to sing tunes that evoke fond recollections," Uwimana mentioned.

The previous year’s event took place on July 27, 2024, at Juru Park in Rebero and attracted a substantial audience. It showcased Rwanda’s leading DJs such as the consistently dependable DJ RY and DJ King Reg (Regis Isheja), who additionally acted as the master of ceremonies for the occasion.
Organizers say the lineup and more details about this year's edition will be announced soon.
In other previous editions, the event featured MCs and DJs who lived the entertainment moments of the past four decades, with the lineup consisting of Rwanda's finest DJs in the game like DJ Bisoso, Karim and RY who is the youngest among them.
