(Hohoe) V/R, May 7, GNA - The Hohoe Municipal Health Directorate located in the Volta Region has initiated the 2025 Child Health Improvement Week. This event emphasizes securing a healthier tomorrow for the children within the municipality.
This countrywide initiative includes providing various services like vaccinations, growth tracking and enhancement, vitamin A supplements, health education and promotion, guidance on feeding infants and young children, birth registration, school health programs, identifying and referring vulnerable children, distributing mosquito nets, and offering family planning services.
Mrs. Faustina Amegashie, DDNS, from the Public Health Unit at the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, emphasized the significance of the week-long event and encouraged parents to take advantage of this opportunity to bring their children for various healthcare services aimed at ensuring better well-being.
She emphasized that breastfeeding plays a crucial role in a child’s development, thus highlighting the importance of following proper health guidelines when nursing infants, particularly concerning the recommended duration for breastfeeding.
Madam Amegashie said sleeping under treated mosquito nets would prevent the mother and child from malaria hence mothers needed to ensure that the mosquito nets they received were put into use for their protection.
She urged mothers to educate each other on the importance of quality health to themselves and of their children.
Mr Evans Zineyele, Hohoe Municipal Disease Control Officer launching the Week on behalf of the Municipal Director of Health Services, commended the support of stakeholders while expressing hope towards the success of the week-long activities.
Mama Dzitri II, Queen of Wli Agorviefe, admonished mothers to always benefit from health programmes to ensure the healthy living of their children and themselves.
The celebration which also marked the African Vaccination Week is themed: “Every child deserves a healthy future; Invest in your child, attend Weighing regularly”.
