Maersk Refutes Arms Shipment Allegations Involving Morocco's Tanger Med Port

The global logistics company Maersk has refuted claims indicating that its ships are carrying arms bound for Israel and making stops at Morocco’s Tangier Med Port, calling these allegations "incorrect and deceptive." This comes under increasing scrutiny from advocates and rising demands for public demonstrations.
In an official statement to DIWIDA.NEWS |AR, Marco Mihajic, who leads communications at Maersk across Europe, India, the Middle East, and Africa, firmly refuted allegations suggesting that his firm transports components for F-35 fighters jets to the Israeli army via Morocco’s ports. "Such assertions lack foundation; they stem from presumptions put forth by advocacy organizations," stated Mihajic.
He stated that although ships like the Maersk Detroit and Nexoe Maersk are presently carrying F-35 components, these deliveries are not meant for Israel. "These parts are designated for other countries involved in the F-35 project," he noted, highlighting the international aspect of the logistics network backing the U.S.-headed multi-national combat aircraft effort.
Maersk, with an operational presence at Tanger Med, is among various logistics partners engaged in the intricate global network supporting the F-35 program. This initiative involves participants from ten nations including the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Singapore, and Israel. Nonetheless, Mihajic emphasized that the firm does not represent Israel’s Ministry of Defense.
"Even when components are sent to Israel, they are delivered on behalf of suppliers rather than the Israeli military," he noted.
The representative from Maersk reaffirmed the company’s firm stance against shipping arms or munitions to regions experiencing conflicts. "We maintain rigorous measures, particularly when it comes to areas like Israel and Gaza which are affected by conflict. We continuously update these procedures to keep up with changing circumstances," explained Mihajic.
This explanation arrives as public unease grows and demands for demonstrations escalate in northern Morocco, following reports suggesting that a vessel transporting Israeli weaponry had arrived at Tanger Med. Maersk’s announcement seeks to alleviate these concerns and underscore the firm’s dedication to adhering to moral maritime operations and global standards.
