Dubai Aquatics Championship Kicks Off: Open Water Swimming and Water Polo Take the Stage
The Dubai International Aquatics Championships will host the open water swimming and water polo events this weekend at the Hamdan Sports Complex. Taking place on April 5 and 6, these contests form part of the extended championship that runs from March 21 to April 20, 2025. Jointly organized with the UAE Swimming Federation and various local training centers, the DIAC has drawn around 3,000 competitors hailing from over 40 nations.
On April 5th, the water polo competition will feature squads from different countries, underscoring the increasing appeal of the sport across the area. This event will be succeeded by the open-water swimming contests held on April 5th and 6th, which will challenge swimmers' stamina and proficiency over extended distances. Hosting these top-tier matches, the Hamdan Sports Complex—known for its cutting-edge infrastructure—is set to offer a prime setting for both competitors and spectators alike.
Abdulla Shahdad, who leads the Hamdan Sports Complex, stressed the importance of organizing this varied selection of water-based competitions. He pointed out that including activities such as water polo and long-distance swimming demonstrates their dedication to advancing multiple forms of aquatics within the area. Additionally, Shahdad underlined the involvement of around 3,000 participants hailing from over 40 nations, highlighting the global attractiveness of the competition.
DIAC has organized its calendar to enhance involvement and active spectator interaction, mostly hosting contests during weekend timeslots. This strategy facilitates higher turnout and backing from fans, enriching the lively ambiance at these championship events.
