Spanish Politicians Blast Weather Agency for Using Complete Map of Morocco
Two members of parliament from Spain's far-left Sumar alliance have voiced their anger towards the nation's weather service (AEMET) after it allegedly posted a map on social media that depicts Morocco, including Western Sahara.
Enrique Santiago and Toni Valero quickly countered by submitting written questions To the government of Pedro Sánchez on Tuesday, April 8, they aim to inquire "if the administration intends to rectify this mistake" and "what steps it plans to implement to uphold the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination via a referendum, consistent with UN resolutions."
The two deputies emphasized that "employing an inaccurate map of Morocco, which includes Western Sahara, is not a standalone occurrence. Various public institutions and bodies, like Enaire and RTVE , similar maps have already been circulating.
From their perspective, "Spain is not meeting its responsibilities to the United Nations as the governing authority of Western Sahara," and ought to focus on "facilitating decolonization and self-determination through a referendum" for the area.
