Wike to Fubara: Surrounded by Ambition – The Power Struggle Intensifies

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, alleges that Rivers State Governor, Simon Lalong, is being misguided by people who covertly aim to take his position as governor.

At a grand reception organized by the Kalabari people in his honor on Saturday, Wike criticized Fubara’s advisors for acting against his interests, asserting that their main objective is to force him out of office.

He specifically pointed to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tammy Danagogo, as a key instigator of the political crisis in the state, which has deepened tensions between himself and his successor.

The issue began when Danagogo, the Government Secretary, utilized his older brother—a judge—to secure an ex parte order claiming that 27 members of the Rivers Assembly had switched sides without this being noticed.

Wike further claimed that he employed the identical procedure to allow the governor to present the budget to merely three or four legislators.

He went on to criticize Danagogo's impact on Fubara, stating, "Consider Danagogo, who had aspirations for the gubernatorial position. His disappointment was immense when he didn’t receive the nomination; he was the one always trailing behind the governor, and Fubara remained unaware of this. This individual will guide you (Fubara) towards damnation."

Wike cautioned Fubara, suggesting he had placed his trust in individuals seeking the gubernatorial position himself rejected. He stated, "The people around you aspire to become governors, but I advised against them—these same people do not have Rivers State's best interests at heart." According to him, these advisors were providing poor counsel which was adversely affecting Fubara. Wike further asserted that due to their influence, Fubara finds himself trailing 2-0 and facing worse outcomes ahead. Additionally, he mentioned how those very advisers speak ill of both Fubara and him, yet Fubara remains unaware that their true target is ultimately to undermine him.
