Unlocking Success: How Nigerian Art and Artists Can Thrive in the Digital Economy
Miabo Enyadike, an artist and the founder of a festival, believes that artists, acting as business owners, need to reshape their strategy for engaging with the swiftly growing worldwide creative sector.
The creative sector has emerged as a significant economic power globally, and for Nigerian and African artists, embracing the digital landscape is crucial for development. These creators can enhance their impact and financial gains by tapping into fresh markets and venturing beyond conventional gallery settings.
This viewpoint was expressed by Miabo Enyadike, the founder of the ArtMiabo International Art Festival (AMIAF), during the announcement of the forthcoming 2025 event. Set for April 29 through May 1, the festival’s fourth iteration will take place at the Admiralty Conference Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Themed 'Artonomy: Reshaping the Worldwide Art Encounter,' this installment aims to offer much more than mere displays.
AMIAF 2025 will include panel discussions, masterclasses, and networking events designed to connect the African art market with international participants.
Enyadike states that attendees will acquire knowledge about investing in art, building brands, and the direction of innovative business ventures. The group will consist of artists, collectors, curators, and leading figures from various industries. Together, they will examine how the connection among art, trade, and technology is transforming in our globally connected society.
"The festival aims to highlight art’s crucial part in influencing both local and worldwide economic landscapes. Today, art transcends gallery spaces and actively participates in global commerce, travel, and creativity. In this expanding creative sector, artists now act as business leaders; thus, it is essential for us to reshape how we interact with this field so that creators continue leading the way," stated Enyadike.

AMIAF 2025 aims to establish an energetic forum where both up-and-coming and seasoned artists can display their creations, network with international purchasers, and delve into pioneering developments like NFTs, digital artwork monetization, and artificial intelligence-fueled innovation. This event will underscore the ways in which African creatives can leverage technology for enhanced exposure and economic stability.
The festival offers several key advantages for the artistic community such as expanding markets, educational opportunities, fostering innovation, encouraging collaborations, and boosting economic development. It provides artists with direct connections to collectors, gallery owners, and financiers who have an interest in backing both African and international modern art. Through workshops, they can acquire hands-on skills related to profiting from digital platforms, implementing successful marketing tactics, and enhancing their financial acumen. Furthermore, the event aims to create alliances among artists, technology pioneers, and corporate executives, thereby transforming the landscape of commercial arts," she stated.
Regarding the theme selection and its importance, Enyadike stated that 'Artconomy' encapsulates the critical necessity to adjust to the evolving intersection between art and commerce. "In today's economy, art serves as an essential resource," she remarked, highlighting how merging digital platforms, eco-friendly artistic methods, and cutting-edge commercial strategies ensures artists achieve the fiscal autonomy they merit while also fostering worldwide economic expansion. She stressed that technology acts as an enhancement rather than a substitute for the conventional art marketplace.
The founder of AMIAF remarked, "With Lagos emerging as a prominent global art center, AMIAF 2025 aims to strengthen Nigeria's role in the worldwide art marketplace, encouraging intercultural conversations and establishing fresh income sources for artists."
