Hungary's PM Orbán Attacks EU, Vows to Tackle Foreign Influence

On Saturday, Hungary's Prime Minister pledged to cleanse his nation of individuals he believes serve the agendas of external forces. He stated that his conservative administration aims to dismantle what he refers to as an international "hidden legion" aligned with both the European Union and a "progressive U.S. empire."
During a speech timed to coincide with Hungary’s national holiday celebrating the 1848 revolution against Habsburg rule, Viktor Orbán addressed thousands of supporters and stated that over the next few weeks, his government would take action against media organizations and other entities receiving foreign funding.
Following today’s joyful celebration comes the task of Easter cleaning. "The pests have survived the winter," Orbán stated. "We will take apart the financial system that utilized tainted funds to purchase influence from politicians, judges, reporters, fake NGOs, and political operatives. Our aim is to eradicate this complete underground force."
Since taking office in 2010, Orbán has utilized the 15 March celebrations in recent years as an opportunity to deliver increasingly antagonistic remarks towards the European Union.
"Throughout history, there has consistently been some empire attempting to strip Hungarian liberty, and currently, this role is played by the entity in Brussels. Similar to how Vienna exerted its dominance before, Brussels is misusing its authority. Just like the overseers from the Viennese court once sought to govern us, they aim to do so again," he asserted.
The Austro-Hungarian Empire, led by the Habsburgs, was comprised of Hungary and Austria, governing substantial portions of Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe during the 18th and into the early 19th century.
Orbán stated that the remaining task was to protect Hungary from assaults by Brussels. He asserted that "Brussels" has "plunged headfirst into the Russo-Ukrainian conflict."
We didn't plunge into conflict alongside Brussels; the empire’s aim isn’t assistance but colonization, using warfare as the tool. Regardless of the cost, Ukraine will achieve EU membership thereafter.
Orbán stated that there was just one response: "The European Union, but not including Ukraine."
Groups receiving USAID funding may face consequences?
Lately, the Hungarian leader has intensified his long-standing attempts to suppress criticism from various quarters including media organizations, civil rights advocates, and anti-corruption groups. He claims these entities have compromised Hungary’s sovereignty through their acceptance of funding from global benefactors.
Orbán, who supports US President Donald Trump, has praised the US administration's efforts to dismantle the US Agency for International Development. He claimed without providing proof that this agency funded liberal movements in Hungary intended to overthrow his government.
He has pledged that organizations that have received support from USAID will be disbanded in Hungary and will encounter "legal repercussions."
This week, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s governing Fidesz party suggested changes to Hungary's constitution. These amendments could permit the suspension of Hungarian dual citizenship for individuals who pose a threat to the nation’s sovereignty or security, potentially leading to deportation.
On Saturday, Orbán, who strongly opposes migration, likewise voiced support for the conspiracy theory known as the "great replacement," implying that there is an international scheme aimed at reducing the impact of white populations.
“The conflict we face today is essentially about safeguarding the essence of the Western world,” Orbán stated. “The empire aims to blend and subsequently supplant the native Europeans with large groups of immigrants coming from different civilizational backgrounds.”
