Cuba Endures Second Night of Widespread Blackout

Specialists largely blame the recent power outages in Cuba on fuel scarcity, outdated infrastructure, and economic embargoes. Beyond Havana, numerous residents have been dealing with rotational blackouts lasting several weeks.

Many individuals in Cuba were left without electricity for for another consecutive evening On Saturday, as the island nation grappled with a significant electricity shortage.

The Associated Press stated that electricity was cut off during the evening, with internet and phone services experiencing sporadic disruptions.

The Cuban President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, stated on social media that officials were "making intense efforts to reinstate stability" to the power system.

Attempts to reinstate electricity in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, the nation's second-biggest city, were unsuccessful on Saturday, leading the grid operator to start over entirely.

In the meantime, many Cubans who live outside of Havana have endured rolling blackouts for months, which have occasionally persisted for up to 20 hours per day.

Cuba is grappling with sanctions and an economic decline.

Cuba's state-owned utility, the Cuban Electricity Union, said on Saturday that its strategy was to create "microsystems" that will connect to each other gradually in order to restore electricity across the island.
