BJP Leader Ramchander Rao Decries Unofficial Emergency in Telangana After Osmania University Prohibits Campus Protests

Hyderabad (Telangana), India, March 16 (ANI): BJP Leader Ramchander Rao On Sunday criticized the prohibition of protests, sit-ins, and demonstrations. Osmania University and stated that there is a "non-declared emergency" in Telangana as declared by the state government.
"The government of Telangana has declared a state of emergency without prior announcement. They have instructed the Osmania University officials to guarantee that none do Dharna Or gatherings occur at the university campus. This campus has served as the breeding ground for protests, with students playing a crucial role in establishing the state of Telangana,” stated the BJP leader to ANI.
"The university is acting upon the government’s request. The government aims to curb student protests and their demands related to job opportunities and various issues. BJP has condemned this action by the government," he further stated.
This comes after Osmania University Banned protests, sit-ins, and rallies inside its departments, colleges, centers, and administrative facilities.
The choice is made due to disturbances in educational and operational tasks.
University officials stated that they have taken the issue very seriously and have opted to ban entering without permission, organizing protests and demonstrations, shouting slogans, among other activities within the departments', colleges', centers', and administrative building grounds of the institution.
The University has also banned hindering administrative authorities and staff from performing their official responsibilities and using “indecent and vulgar language” towards university personnel and officials.
According to an internal university document, it has been noted that multiple instances involve students or student groups accessing departments/colleges, centers/administrative buildings. Osmania University And organizing protests and sit-ins, which lead to interruptions in daily operations and create a negative image of the institution among the public. These occurrences were noted as having an unfavorable impact on the university’s efficient operation, contributing to delays in both administrative tasks and educational advancement. At times, such events have also sparked security-related worries and issues.
The institution also stated that should anyone be discovered participating in these activities, they would face severe consequences under legal protocols.
The varsity stated that stakeholders (such as enrolled students) who have legitimate complaints within the university system, should initially reach out to the relevant official at the institutional level. Following this, they can submit their grievances to the Registrar and higher-ups, provided they obtain prior approval beforehand. (ANI)
