MTN Ghana has handed over a check worth GH¢10,000, alongside various beverages and foodstuffs, to the Northern Regional Chief Imam to aid in the preparations for the 2025 Eid-ul-Fitr festivities.
The contribution comprised five sacks of rice, ten containers of vegetable oil, several crates of bottled water, ten packages of soft drinks, three cases of cooking oil, ten boxes of tomato paste, one sheep, and mobile credit valued at GH₵1,000.
Observing the holy month
At a short ceremony held in Tamale to distribute the items, Collins Adjei, who serves as the Area Sales Manager for the Northern region at MTN Ghana, mentioned that in a matter of days, the sacred month of Ramadan will conclude, leading up to the joyous observance of Eid-ul-Fitr.
"As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to assist Muslim communities, we chose to make donations to Chief Imams throughout the nation as a way to mark this special occasion," he stated.
“Eid-ul-Fitr is a time when families and communities come together to share and strengthen bonds, show charity to the less privileged, and promote harmony with their neighbours,” he added.
He emphasised that this gesture was carried out across all 16 regions in the country to mark the festival.
“Our Muslim brothers form a significant part of our business community. Supporting them is our way of expressing gratitude for their contributions,” he noted. “We serve customers of all faiths, but our Muslim community plays a particularly key role in our operations.”
“This season is an opportunity to say thank you for your continuous support to MTN and for your role in promoting peace within our communities,” Mr Adjei said.
Promoting digital transactions
Mr Adjei also used the occasion to promote MTN’s new app: “We have developed apps that make transactions faster and easier. Our Memo App, for instance, allows customers to perform mobile money transactions seamlessly, without having to dial *170#.”
He encouraged customers to download the app to enjoy convenient mobile money services.
Appreciation
On behalf of the Northern Regional Chief Imam, the Secretary, Al-Haji Abdus-Salam Ahmed Abdulai Habibu Mohammed, expressed appreciation to MTN for the donation.
“This gesture continues to support the less privileged in society, who otherwise would struggle to celebrate the festivity,” he said.
They have been carrying out this tradition for more than six years now. It happens every year, and we are thankful that they keep remembering us.
"As a faith-based organization with a primarily underprivileged constituency, this donation will significantly help those struggling to observe Eid," he noted.
