Ice Cube Closes Deal for New ‘Friday' Movie at Warner Bros. and New Line

Ice Cube has reached a deal to write and star in a new "Friday" movie for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. The new feature, which is titled "Last Friday," will mark the fourth entry in the comedy series - and the first in over 20 years, following up "Friday After Next" in 2002.

New Line president and CCO Richard Brener shared that a deal had been reached with Ice Cube to develop "Last Friday" in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter . diwida.NEWS has confirmed the news.

Ice Cube has been open about his plans to make another "Friday" movie, though his agreement to star and direct marks a significant development in the project. In June 2024, the rapper and actor shared that there was "traction" for "Last Friday" at Warner Bros. and its studio chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, speaking with Flavor Flav on his SiriusXM show "Flavor of the Week." De Luca and Abdy took over the studio's film division in 2022.

"I've got new leadership now. My friend Mike De Luca, who was with New Line when I began my career and worked on ' Friday,' 'The Players Club,' and 'All About the Benjamins,'" Ice Cube stated back then.

Ice Cube appeared in all three installments of the "Friday" series: "Friday" from 1995, "Next Friday" released in 2000, and "Friday After Next," which came out in 2002. He collaborated with DJ Pooh for the script of the initial film and penned the screenplays for both follow-up movies independently. The entire trio of "Friday" pictures was produced under New Line Cinema, then overseen by De Luca during the creation of the primary set of these films. Subsequently, Warner Bros. acquired New Line, thereby securing ownership over the "Friday" franchise rights.
