Rainfall Brings Relief as Moroccan Reservoirs Hit 32.3% Capacity

The recent precipitation in Morocco has provided essential respite, especially for farmers, herders, and those dependent on water supplies. Although these rains do not completely address the water shortage issue, they provide a substantial improvement. The reservoir levels have climbed to 32.3%, an increase from 26.5% recorded earlier this year in 2024.

The Al Wahda Dam in Taounate experienced a significant rise, accumulating an additional 60.7 million cubic meters, which brought its total capacity to 43.9%. Likewise, the Oued El Makhazine Dam in Larache attained 83.4% capacity following an addition of 24.9 million cubic meters.

In the Oriental region, the Mohammed V Dam has risen by 19 million cubic meters, bringing its capacity to 61.4%. At the national level, Morocco’s overall water storage currently stands at 5.44 billion cubic meters, marking a significant rise of 27.3% from the previous year. Although recent rainfall has enhanced conditions, ongoing initiatives for effective water resource management remain crucial for securing the future.
