Abiodun Greenlights Training Program for Perm Secs and Civil Servants

The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has sanctioned a training program for permanent secretaries and high-ranking officials within the state’s public and civil services. This initiative will take place at the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies located in Olabisi Onabanjo University at Ago Iwoye.

Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, the head of the civil service, revealed this information in a statement on Saturday.

The Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance Studies, which has been gifted by the ruler, is currently managed by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies located in Kuru, Jos.

Last year in May, President Bola Tinubu sent his Vice, Senator Kashim Shettima, to inaugurate the multimillion-naira institution in honor of the renowned monarch’s 90th birthday celebration.

On taking office, Tinubu informed the new administration that the Federal Government had instructed the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS) in Kuru, Jos to oversee the operation of the institution.

Onasanya mentioned that the one-week intense training program aimed to educate Permanent Secretaries, Principal Directors, General Managers, and other high-ranking officials within the Service. Additionally, personnel at various ranks and positions were anticipated to gain advantages from these well-organized sessions.

He said, “Governor Abiodun had, during a meeting with the Director of the School, Professor Sola Adeyanju, described NIPSS as the highest think tank and capacity-building institution for top decision-makers in the country.

He provided a strong commitment that the State Government would fully utilize the advantages presented by the institute's existence within the state to enhance the capabilities of its employees. The governor encouraged the institute to develop a curriculum for this purpose.

His Excellency expresses his gratitude to His Royal Highness, the Awujale of Ijebu Land, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, for founding the School of Governance Studies at Olabisi Onabanjo University. He also extends his appreciation to the Federal Government for agreeing to have this institution taken over by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, which stands as the premier center for public administration in Africa.

Governor Mr. has indeed stated that the School of Governance Studies is not just a boon for Ogun State but also for the whole Southwest region and the nation as a whole.

Onasanya further clarified that the authorization for this training fulfills the commitment Abiodun made when inaugurating the institute previously, promising that Permanent Secretaries within the state would be the inaugural group of officials to enroll in the institute’s programs.

He stated that the rigorous training program for the Permanent Secretaries is scheduled to start during the second week of April. Additionally, civil servants at grades GL 13 through GL 17 will undergo training according to a carefully designed syllabus developed by the institution.

The Chief of Service expressed gratitude to the governor for establishing the civil service on a stable foundation, positioning it as the driving force behind governmental operations.

Prof. Sola Adeyanju, the Head of the Institution, characterized Abiodun as a genuine patriot with remarkable foresight, emphasizing that NIPPS has left an indelible mark in Ogun State.

As per his statement, the founding of the school by Oba Adetona is unparalleled.

He stated that the federal government requested NIPSS to assume control of the school to fulfill the vision of the founder and guarantee that his legacy would continue.

He emphasized that the National Institute, being a center of excellence and the foremost think tank in Africa, will utilize its proven capabilities to provide high-quality research outcomes, develop capacities, and foster discussions on national matters, ensuring the school fulfills its mission.

He mentioned that NIPSS boasts an extensive roster of top-tier experts and substantial expertise, which they will utilize to elevate the state’s civil service to among the finest nationwide.
